So it sounds like you also felt the need to push the party towards a successful investigation.

And this game, your game, and the RPGnet review all had players who had trouble with the investigation and a final battle that turned out to be a pushover as soon as Gideon scares everyone away.

I guess if I were to run this I would:

a) as you said, allow the PC's to go find something else to do besides the investigation if there were so included

b) be a bit more loose about the investigation i.e. if they investigate a reasonable lead, throw them a bone

c) don't have Gideon transform unless he's clearly losing--having all his allies run away isn't helping his cause!Billyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16717291964764757651noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383687614967941820.post-49520250433351631362013-06-06T03:09:49.215-07:002013-06-06T03:09:49.215-07:00Your adventure in Bogenhafen sounds much like the ...Your adventure in Bogenhafen sounds much like the time I ran it for our group a couple of years ago.

http://drbargle.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/anti-climactic-critical-hit.html

I think that if I was to run it again I'd heavily modify the adventure, introducing some more concrete motivations for the players to get involved and a whole host more clues and strange events - Bogenhafen is just too normal (leering moon excepted). I might now have the courage to let the players fail in the main investigation, but to have them find other adventures in Bogenhafen before the town was destroyed by a demon, or even allow them to trek off into the mountains to fight goblins or delve into dungeons (if that is what they wanted) rather than artificially keeping them in Bogenhafen against their characters' perfectly reasonable wishes to get the hell out of there.Andy Bartletthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06683770320671028815noreply@blogger.com
